The FDA has now defined a percent Daily Value (%DV) for "Added Sugars", and will now require labeling of these added sugars in the Nutrition Facts Label. This new rule will impact food manufacturers, private label brands and sugar ingredient suppliers alike and will call for calculating the added sugars and new label design.
Added sugars are sugars that are either added during the processing of foods, or are packaged as such, and include:
sugar, such as cane sugar, brown sugar, glucose, etc.
syrups and honey, such as high fructose corn syrup, maple syrup, etc.
concentrated fruit or vegetable juice
and others, such as molasses and corn sweetener
